If you’re trying to sell your home and it’s been vacant for a while, what do you do? The first thing you should know is that a closed house with the air conditioning turned off can result in higher humidity. Additionally, a vacant home usually receives little to no sunlight if the shades are closed, there’s no air movement and the doors are locked. This can result in mold, which thrives when humidity levels exceed 70 percent.

I know this is hard to swallow but if you want to protect your vacant home against mold this summer, according to experts you should set the thermostat at 74 degrees or below…and turn your fan to “On.” If you have a high-efficiency unit from A#1 Air, obviously your electricity bills will be much lower than if you have an older unit.

A dark, damp environment is an ideal situation for mold spores to thrive. And if you DO get mold, you need to know that mold cleaning and remedies disturb the spores and they become airborne and continue to thrive in homes that are humid, warm and dark. However, many experts say not to worry too much about your health if your home does get mold. There are no scientific studies that show mold is unhealthy at normal indoor levels except for allergic responses and minor irritant effects and infections in those with impaired immune systems.
