We’ve helped customers throughout the Dallas, TX area cut their bills and rake in energy savings by installing energy efficient heating and air conditioning systems and we’d be happy to do the same for you.
Heating System Upgrades
The first thing on your list should be heating. Your current heating system may be using entirely too much fuel, either due to an old, inefficient furnace or the use of an expensive, unsustainable fuel type. There are alternatives, however.
To start, if you want to continue using consumable fuels like gas, oil or electricity, newer furnaces are far more efficient than those made 10–20 years ago. Especially if your furnace is more than 15 years old, a replacement can severely reduce your consumption and monthly bills. New furnaces have AFUE ratings of up to 98% and are both smaller and quieter than their older counterparts. That means they use 98% of the fuel they consume to create heat.
Another option for your heating system is a heat pump. This system uses a small amount of electricity to extract heat from the air outside your home. Instead of burning natural gas or oil to produce heat, it uses a heat exchanger to bring heat into your home, saving you a lot of money. And it works equally well in the summer because heat pumps can also be used as air conditioners.
Cooling System Upgrades
A heat pump is a great way to combine your comfort systems and reduce both heating and cooling costs. There are other options as well, including the introduction of a smaller air conditioning system designed to match your home. Ductless split and mini split air conditioners can be calibrated to provide just as much cooling as your home needs while saving you on your monthly energy bills, as almost all modern air conditioners are far more energy efficient than they were just 10 years ago.
By upgrading your air conditioner, you will severely reduce the energy cost of cooling your home each year.
Other Ways to Save Energy at Home
While upgrading your systems will have an immediate impact, it costs money to buy a new furnace or air conditioner. If this is outside your budget right now, there are other things you can do. Regular maintenance to your existing home comfort systems ensure that they continue to operate at optimal efficiency, while ductwork vent cleaning will reduce any blocks or clogs that can slow your system.
You should also have your insulation thoroughly inspected to check for leaks and gaps that might pour conditioned air outside, effectively wasting money and energy. It’s a common problem for insulation to be severely lacking in the attic and basement of a home – even in homes built in the last 10–15 years.
